As with all our wines it’s made to be a delight on its own and a perfect match with most foods.

Malvasia Blanco is a much-admired native of the Istrian wine district on the Adriatic coastline in Croatia, and we acquired it entirely by accident … because no one else was interested in propagating it. We planted it in 2017 and got the young vines up to the wire just in time for the Cudlee Creek fire of 2019. Most were killed outright. So, we replanted and in 2024 got this first small harvest which was blended with Grenache Gris to make a barrel. It didn’t spend much time in wood, but this nevertheless added a hint of vanilla and spice, and there is something therapeutic, not to mention romantic, about wine lolling about in some fine French oak.

The wine we hope you will find is fabulously aromatic displaying all the virtues of both Malvasia Blanco (the bright floral notes) and in Grenache Gris (apple pear and yellow stone fruit with a hint of fennel). It is smooth because the berries are naturally low in phenolics, and they were gently whole bunch pressed and then co-fermented at low temperature for about a month. The high natural acidity is enhanced by being grown in a particularly chilly part of the Adelaide Hills and this makes it a great accompaniment with a great many things including music from U2 and gazing into the eyes of someone you love.
