Voluptuous fruit, spicy and with a fine acid balance.

(750ml) Adelaide Hills, SA

This variety has a most unfortunate marketing name. With its umlauts installed, its situation is even worse, so we left them out! From next vintage we will be calling ours “Gruvee” which is actually its nickname in its native home of Austria where it is the most important white variety. Gruvee has won “Wine of Show” awards overseas with its slick texture, voluminous fruit profile on the nose and palate and has convinced many judges that is more exciting than anything else, including expensive Chardonnays.

Our particular version of the fruit in the hands of our friends at Artwine and Hahndorf Hill won three trophies in its first outing and many more until they retired. Enjoy its stonefruit, lemon and pear notes with a hint of white pepper, its length and lovely texture. Wine writers always note that it’s a “great food wine” … and it does pair well with just about anything pink, green or white (not pickles!) but I don’t think many people will be thinking that they have to fire up the home furnaces when they can just enjoy it raw.
